Lily Sandybanks of Frogmorton

rest·less   (rstls)
adj.
  1. Marked by a lack of quiet, repose, or rest: spent a restless night.
  2. Not able to rest, relax, or be still: a restless child.
  3. Never still or motionless: the restless sea.
-- dictionary.com

this is my current state. spent many hot and restless afternoons trying to study. i am like a restless child waiting to be able to watch the world cup without guilt. my mind is like a restless sea tossing around legal knowledge and other unnecessary things.

as you can see, i'm beginning to lose the plot. but here are some websites that were sent me by my (equally restless?) flatmate, and i want to highlight them, for very different reasons...
  • The dark side of the World Cup - up to 40,000 women may be trafficked to Germany as prostitutes during this world cup season. This is awful because most of these women/girls have no idea what they're getting themselves into when they agree to hand over their passport to a 'job agency'. I think it's important to be aware of such things happening and see how we can help:
  • On a very different note, find out your Elvish name at  http://www.chriswetherell.com/elf/ .. Mine is Uruviel Telemnar, but i much prefer my Hobbit name - Lily Sandybanks of Frogmorton.

San Francisco 2006

What: 3 days of fun & games
Where: San Francisco/Oakland/Napa Valley
Who: Crystal (tour guide/chauffeur/baseball game commentator/biking buddy/food buddy/shopping buddy/great friend) + Juli (the chinese tourist from london) + crystal's friends (the nice people!)

Best memories:
  • Eating fresh lobster at a market stall (YUM)
  • Driving up and down the hills of San Francisco in heavy downpour
  • Second-hand bookshops
  • Pure hot chocolate at Bittersweet
  • Picking up a new hobby at Napa Valley
  • Watching a San Francisco Giants game (w/ full commentary and tickets provided by Crys)
  • Biking across the Golden Gate Bridge
  • Clubbing, chatting into the night and then very nearly missing my flight (sheer panic at the time, but a great story in hindsight)
Great moments:

Road trip 2006

On April 7, after two long sleepless flights from London to Dallas to San Francisco, I find myself in a car with three other crazy girls (namely Mary, Lara and Crystal - see picture below) on a midnight road trip to LA ...

Breakfast at Denny's:  kudos to crys who drove through the night, until we finally ended up taking a nap at dawn in a supermarket parking lot in Pasadena and brushing our teeth in a diner...

The OC: After driving through the night, we decided to live it up in orange county. grabbed hotdogs & lemonade, got comfy on the beach, only bothered with a touch of sunscreen (mistake#1), fell asleep for two hours (mistake #2) - woke up red, scorched and peeling. old friends: great lemonade and great friends! brian kindly spent his weekend taking us around LA =)

Vanessa: another great friend who drove us around all day =) From glitzy hollywood to glamourous rodeo drive to sunny santa monica to downtown LA (where Brian's funky church service is in a bar/club...)

Highway 101: The weekend in LA ended with a short-lived night out in Beverly Hills. Early monday morning we were back on the road homebound to San Francisco.
four girls and a car: crystal's trusty Toyota Camry (shiny white vehicle in the background) that took us all the way to LA and back to San francisco...where the adventure continues...

first day of lectures in the Electives part of my course. it's amazing how a good restful week works wonders on one's motivation levels! getting ready for school this morning i was excited like it was the first day of kindergarten. (given the way they spoon feed information to us here, this probably isn't too far from the truth.) so this is the new me - i like school. (this is either me speaking waay too soon, or me realising that i should savour every minute of student life before it ends.)

i found this on ed's xanga page and thought i'd give it a try. haha i love how i got 0% for chemistry.

since i last wrote...

the reason for the long silence - in xanga and in life - can pretty much be attributed to exam stress. and this exam stress was the result of me trying to enjoy life as a slacker and then realising (almost too late) that i really couldn't pull it off and am really a geek at heart. so in panic i hit the books with full force and said goodbye to friends (except those in the library). to tv. to cooking. to dcg. to laundry. it was bad. but only for a few weeks, and now it's over i'm not going back there again.

so since i last wrote...

new year's eve (man it's been ages): was a really fun reunion with CIS (high school) friends at Dip in hong kong.
Made the mistake of being out until dawn and then waking up a couple hours later to lead worship at church.

January 2006 saw lots of chinese new year celebrations, i.e. excuses for food fests..

and then there was the month of february where my camera didn't get to see the light of day. but i received SO much encouragement from people sending me emails and texts. (thanks!!) and my dearest flatmate bought me these to cheer me up:

The end of exams was marked with a big night out.

And there should be more pictures coming up soon since Central DCG and First Fruits are going on a weekend away this month =)
